Okay. I just got done watching this film, and I am so amazingly disgusted. What a coward JW's character is in this. I almost would have preferred this to have been a predictable, cheesy love story than what this ended up being. This had so much potential, but I was so disappointed; I actually found myself yelling at the screen: "Oh, come ON!!!! FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, GO AFTER HER!!!!" Which is not to say that this wasn't well-acted---it was, very much so, with great performances handed in by Imogen Stubbs and Susannah York (of "the ODIOUS Mister Scrooge" fame); very convincing and heartbreaking. I just hated the way the story went down. Seriously, why do they always stick him in these roles of spineless, repressive, posh guys who are way too fixated on appearances? Which, by the way, just leads me back to my original conclusion: Sydney Carton is the best role he has ever played. FACT.
